Bai Fang Li, wafat pada usia 93 thn, meninggal dalam kemiskinan. Sekalipun begitu, dia telah menyumbangkan sejumlah uang sebesar RMB 350.000 (kurs 1.300, setara Rp 455.000.000, jika tidak salah ya J) yang dia berikan kepada perguruan tinggi dan sekolah-sekolah di Tianjin untuk menolong kurang lebih 300 anak-anak miskin.
Hampir selama 20 tahun, dia menggenjot becaknya demi memperoleh uang untuk menambah donasinya.
Makan siangnya adalah 2 buah kue kismis dan air tawar. Kemewahan untuknya adalah menaruh saus ke dalam air. Makan malamnya berupa sepotong daging atau sebutir telur. Apa yang dia kenakan adalah apa yang diambil dari tempat sampah. Beberapa potong helai adalah suatu kemewahan.
Dia mengayuh selama 365 hari setahun, dalam keadaan salju turun atau dalam panas yang sangat menyengat. Dia mulai bekerja pada pukul 6 pagi dan berhenti pada pukul 7 atau 8 malam. “Tidak apa-apa saya menderita”, katanya. ”Tetapi biarlah anak-anak yang miskin itu dapat bersekolah”.
Saat berusia 90 tahun, dia mengadakan tabungan terakhirnya sebesar RMB 500 (sekitar Rp 650.000) yang disimpannya dengan rapih dalam suatu kotak dan menyerahkannya ke sekolah Yao Hua. Dia berkata, “saya sudah tidak dapat mengayuh becak lagi. Saya tidak dapat menyumbang lagi. Ini mungkin terakhir yang dapat saya sumbangkan ….”.
Semua guru di sekolah itu menangis …….

Jika Oprah Winfrey menyumbang ratusan dan ribuan dolar, tentu kita kagum namun tidak terkejut.
Atau bila Bill Gates juga mendermakan uangnya jutaan dolar, kita juga barangkali menganggap hal hebat yang biasa saja.
Tapi bila seseorang yang miskin yang menyumbang dalam kekurangannya?
…….. maka ia barangkali penghuni surga yang diutus ke dunia ….
